StudioCiti.es
The concept behind studiociti.es is to create a platform for photographers that allows them to create studio-ready photography without a studio or any equipment, except DSLR and tripod. All images were taken, by utilising the existing infrastructure of the city.
On the website www.studiociti.es photographers can find locations that offer the desired lighting effects, and they can also share their discovered locations in their cities, to expand this growing community.

PFI Light Sculpture
A project aimed to raise awareness about Private Finance Initiative (PFI), a programme of privately financing departments of public services, approved in 1993 and is still ongoing today.
Given the complexity of the subject and the traditional form of activist not a lot of people get involved in the subject. We approached the project with an interactive light sculpture.
We decided to show how extravagant PFI contracts can be through the maintenance services, by using examples like new furniture supplies or replacements of broken installations. We found that it is easier for people to relate to these items and services as it is something that they may have to undertake themselves or have experience in resolving.
In one instance, a PFI company charged one hospital £333 to change a broken light bulb. While we are aware that within a service there are other costs, often more than material, these can sometimes increase the price exponentially. We worked out that the average price of the cost of a light bulb is roughly to be £2.23. This means that with £333 we could buy around 149 light bulbs.
Along with the team we designed a public installation that allows for speculation, interaction and communication. Based on the needs of activism, we designed a portable structure which consists of 148 lights divided into 3 rows, with each light representing a PFI project, which it is identified by the switch tag and a 149th light bulb placed in the middle, representing PFI in its entity.
The length of light bulb’s cable corresponds to the total repayments the public organisation will have to make to the PFI company, creating another level within the installation which is a visual data representation. As a whole a graph is shaped in every row.
This interaction involves a simple puzzle which the participant has to resolve, this lead us to discover that given the positive attitude after playing the game, the person was much more receptive and willing to learn about PFI. We specifically designed this interaction to be intriguing so that we could covertly raise awareness.
The game was first tested in our studios with a low tech prototype. We received positive and constructive feedback which allowed us to improve and move forward with the project.
A second working prototype was produce to present the idea to the client. This consisted of 15 hanging light bulbs and the PFI light bulb at the bottom. We adapted the mechanism of the structure in order to make it fold in one line. This change allowed us to show the graphical data.
There video attached shows the mechanism of the installation.
